US Army Security Assistance Training Management Organization (SATMO) Iraq Counter Terrorism Service (CTS) Training Support

SATMO was designed to provide agile, specialized, and cost-effective Security Assistance Teams to facilitate Security Assistance Programs that:

  • Build partnership capacity as well as defense and security relationships;
  • Promote specific U.S. security interests, including all security assistance activities; develop allied and friendly military capabilities for self-defense and multinational operations; and
  • Provide U.S. forces with peacetime and contingency access to host nations in support of United States Army Campaign Plan and U.S. national security objectives.

IDS programs under the vehicle include:

  • Iraq Counter Terrorism Training Support – IDS Security Assistance Training (SAT) team provides the Iraqi Counter Terrorism Service (CTS) training at their academy located at the Baghdad International Airport (Project Victory) in Baghdad, Iraq. IDS’s SAT Team provides tactical level maintenance and sustainment training for CTS weapons, organic vehicles, optics, and night vision equipment at three (3) proficiency levels. Our trainers provide instruction, evaluations, and recommendations to ensure that all selected CTS personnel have a working knowledge of the correct maintenance manuals, procedures, spares part, tools, and test equipment necessary to perform regular maintenance on CTS weapons, vehicles, and optics/night vision equipment.
    • IDS’s CTS Maintenance and Sustainment Training program employs a comprehensive, end-to-end approach that begins by testing for basic knowledge and places an increasing practical focus throughout the duration of the program. Additionally, After Action Reviews (AARs) are utilized throughout the program to ensure student retention and effective communication.
    • Over 200 candidates to date have successful completed the CTS Maintenance and Sustainment Training Program, allowing for Iraqi forces to actively address CTS weaponry failures and issues with less reliance on expert technicians.
  • Iraqi Special Operations Forces – Qwat al-Khasah (QK*)- IDS has been the sole combat training element for conducting the Iraqi Special Operations Forces (ISOF) training at King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Center in Amman, Jordan, since 2015. IDS provides critical training to ISOF to improve their capacity to deter, prevent, disrupt, capture, and prosecute known terrorists and terrorist organizations within Iraq. IDS’s tactical training greatly improves ISOF’s capacity to combat terrorism and continue sustainment through organic training or further contractor provided training phases. IDS has trained over 1,000 Iraqi QK soldiers in special operations tactics including hand-to-hand fighting techniques, individual soldier tasks, land navigation, patrolling, ambush and raid techniques, advanced shooting, and Close Quarters Battle techniques as well as leadership development.
    • During the campaign against ISIS in Iraq, there was a highly contested enemy area in Mosul that the Iraqi Army was having significant challenges in securing. The Iraqi Government called upon the newly trained soldiers of QK to engage the enemy and secure the area. Upon their arrival to this contested area, they eliminated over three hundred (300) enemy combatants while only sustaining three (3) casualties of their own. Each of these soldiers assigned to the First QK Battalion were previous students and recent graduates of the QK Training course instructed by IDS.
    • *QK is an elite, non-sectarian unit that serves as Iraq’s premier light infantry (Ranger) unit.
  • Lebanon M2A2 Operation Desert Storm, Bradley – IDS’s Technical Assistance Field Team (TAFT) trains the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) personnel on M2A2 ODS Bradley operations at the platoon, as well as company level, and maintenance procedures under foreign military sales case LE-B-DAA. Our TAFT trains LAF personnel on M2A2 ODS Bradley operations to the platoon and company level and maintenance procedures to 10/20 level in order to improve their operator and maintenance capabilities and operational readiness.
  • CLDJ Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection – On-site force protection, physical security analysis, and training services to the Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti Installation Commanding Officer (ICO), CLDJ Installation Security Officer (ISO), and the CLDJ Antiterrorism Officer (ATO) in support of Force Protection and Physical Security operations. IDS’s services include the collection, development, editing, and synthesis of requirements to assist the CLDJ ICO and staff to develop alternative solutions to complex force protection and physical security issues, improve the security operation of organizations operating in the environment, development of security measures associated with safe security operation of a forward deployed military installation, and support efficient and effective operation of security and force management hardware and software systems.
